Self Esteem Activities To Improve Your Life

Self esteem is the key to a happy and successful life. Little can be accomplished without first building the foundation of strong moral character, talent development and summoning the confidence to pursue one's goals. Naturally, we are not all born with perfect, positive self esteem. Researchers believe that self esteem begins at home with child-parent interaction. Regardless of one's upbringing, esteem is something we can all develop over time, if we wish to, through self esteem activities and exercises that build confidence.

One method of improving self esteem is to take better care of yourself. Begin today by choosing healthier meals. On a daily basis, try eating five or six servings of vegetables and fruit; six servings of whole grain breads, pastas, cereals and rice; two servings of protein like beef, chicken, fish, cheese or yogurt; a limited amount of sugar, salt and fat. Often a simple hair cut, highlights or a new style can boost self-esteem, as can a relaxing afternoon at the spa getting a manicure, pedicure, facial or massage. Go through your closets and de-clutter your life. Trade in some of those old, drab clothes for new outfits that you can feel good about. Exercise by walking, biking, running, playing a sport, dancing or participating in an aerobics class. These are all activities that will contribute to an overall feeling of wellbeing.

One of the often recommended self esteem activities is to transform your space. For some strange reason, our mental state tends to mirror our surroundings; so if you're in a house that's full of clutter, your mind will feel disarrayed. If you're in a room with plain white walls and no character, you will feel like your personality is just as dull. Instead, fill your space with things that inspire you. Hang up that painting you made in college. Frame an inspirational saying to read every morning when you get out of bed. Repaint your bedroom. Buy organizers that can get clutter out of sight and out of mind once and for all. Set up a shelf with trophies, medals or awards to remind you of what you've achieved in life. Create a collage intended to increase self esteem by including photographs or images of things that make you happy. Light more scented candles, add plants around the house and buy a new lamp to change the lighting situation in your most-used room, or remind yourself to listen to your favorite music more often. These influences will all create a more positive atmosphere where you feel comfortable in your own skin.

If you're the creative type, then begin your self esteem activities by creating a scrapbook of your life. Include photographs, awards, mementos of things you have done, postcards, newspaper articles, art prints, medals, letters, inspirational quotes, greeting cards and other special items to remind you of all that is positive in your life. Keep this book around to refer back to whenever you are feeling a bit down. Sit out in the sunshine and spend some time relaxing and reading inspirational self-help books that may change the way you think about the topics that bother you most. Building esteem doesn't happen overnight, but the more thought and effort you give it, the more you will see your life transform for the better.

The Causes of Low Self Esteem
